Striking Success: An Interview with Aron Davis

Updated: Jan 18

When most kids unwrap their sixth birthday presents, they find, toys, Playstations or a new bike. But for Aron, that birthday was a pivotal moment in his life which would set him on a journey of hard work, dedication, and discipline in which he would later represent not only himself but the community in which he is involved in. With him being a second dan black belt and a high performing athlete at the University of Birmingham, Aron’s story is one of determination and community pride.

His story begins at six years of age where he would receive a gift which would change the trajectory of his life – a karate class. Unknown to him at this period that the exposure to martial arts would set him on a path of passion in which he would carry with him through his years. With university life and an excruciating training schedule Aron manages to strike a balance between his academic pursuits and his athletic ambitions. “I’ve always believed in pushing myself to the best of my ability” Aron stated. “It’s not easy, but the disciple I have gained from karate has helped me manage my time effectively”

Despite his achievements, Aron recognizes the challenges that come with age, he acknowledges the window to represent Britain is slim and limited but nevertheless, he is committed to reaching his best potential. “I may not have the chance to represent my country due to my age, but that won’t stop me from giving my all in every competition” He is “driven” to do his personal best and represent the Jewish community to his max potential.

As soon as he steps foot onto the mat Aron realises the pressure and responsibility, he must live up to represent the community to his maximum potential. The pride he feels in this role is second to none. “There’s a sense of responsibility that comes with being a representative of a community”. With multiple competitions on the horizon Aron gears up for another round of challenges.

In the coming months, Aron will face new opponents and academic hurdles in which he will continue to show his hard work, dedication, and discipline. Whether in the dojo or lecture hall Aron will carry on his path of success.
